چکیده

In human-computer dialogue systems, the task of Spoken Language Understanding (SLU) system is to process the input acoustic utterance and transform it into a semantic representation. The goal of semantic analysis is to represent what the subject intended to say. This thesis presented overview of the current state-of-the-art methods for statistical semantic analysis. In comparison to the expert based systems, the main advantage of stochastic approaches is the ability to train the model from data. Furthermore, systems based on statistical models can be easily ported to other domains. However, the amount of the annotation effort must be also taken into account when developing the stochastic semantic analysis system. In this thesis, fundamental stochastic models along with the training and evaluation of these models are described. Annette Hautli and Tracy Holloway King: Adapting stochastic LFG input for semantics

LFG c(onstituent)-structure and f(unctional)-structure analyses provide the detailed syntactic structures necessary for subsequent semantic analysis. The f-structure encodes grammatical functions as well as semantically relevant features like tense and number. The c-structure, in conjunction with the φ-mapping, provides the information on linear precedence necessary for semantic scope and anaph...

Multiplicative Updates for Learning with Stochastic Matrices

Stochastic matrices are arrays whose elements are discrete probabilities. They are widely used in techniques such as Markov Chains, probabilistic latent semantic analysis, etc. In such learning problems, the learned matrices, being stochastic matrices, are non-negative and all or part of the elements sum up to one. Conventional multiplicative updates which have been widely used for nonnegative ...

The Effect of Using Visual Aids, Semantic Elaboration, and Visual Aids plus Semantic Elaboration on Iranian Learners' Vocabulary Learning

This study investigated the effect of using visual aids, semantic elaboration, and visual aids plus semantic elaboration on the Iranian EFL learners' vocabulary learning. To conduct the study, the researchers assigned 49 elementary learners to three homogeneous groups according to their proficiency level. Then, a pre-test of Paribakht and Wesche's Vocabulary Knowledge Scale was given to each gr...

Discrete time stochastic Petri box calculus ∗ Igor

Last decade, a number of stochastic enrichments of process algebras was constructed to facilitate the specification of stochastic processes based on the the well-developed framework of algebraic calculi. In [56], a continuous time stochastic extension of finite PBC was proposed called sPBC. Algebra sPBC has interleaving semantics due to the properties of continuous time distributions. At the sa...
